It’ll be difficult to fill Ighalo’s shoes, says Osimhen

Victor Osimhen, Super Eagles forward, says it will be difficult to fill Odion Ighalo’s shoes in the national team.

Ighalo retired from international football after featuring for the Eagles at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, after emerging the highest goal scorer with five goals.

Osimhen, who plies his trade with Lille, French football club, featured just once in Egypt and got on the score sheet.

It is believed in many quarters that Osimhen will replace the 30-year-old Manchester United star in the Eagles’ forward after a number of impressive performance for club and country.

In an Instagram interview with the Super Eagles media on Wednesday, the Lille player admitted that it will not only be difficult to fill the former Watford striker’s shoes in the team but also surpass his achievement.

“Everything that he has done for the national team, it will be difficult before I will fill in his shoes or even to surpass him will take a lot of time,” he said.

“He has shut the mouth of the critics, I am really happy. He is so amazing.

“The kind of player that endures such criticism – from the World Cup, national team. He did well to qualify us, for me he’s already a legend. Ighalo is there and will continue to be there because he’s done so well not just in football.”

The 21-year-old football star has emerged as one of the most promising young strikers in Europe since joining the French side.

He has scored 18 goals and made six assists in 38 outings across all competitions for the club.
