“The commission wishes to state that no such operation was carried out by the EFCC. The public is enjoined to disregard the report as fake news,” the statement reads.

Over the past few days, Nigerians have experienced challenges accessing new naira notes, a development that has led to protests in some parts of the country.

The EFCC recently arrested the operations manager of a commercial bank in the federal capital territory (FCT) for hoarding N29 million worth of new naira notes.

The commission said the operations manager was arrested after refusing to load the bank’s automated teller machines (ATMs), despite having the said sum in the vault.
