The Bauchi house of assembly has expressed concern over the increase in cholera infections across the state.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control  (NCDC) had listed Bauchi as one of the most affected states with cholera infections in the country.

Ado Wakili, lawmaker representing Bura constituency in the state, while presenting a motion at the plenary session on Wednesday, said a significant percentage of residents in his constituency have contracted the disease.

“In my community, Bura, there is no house that has not been affected by cholera. You see three to five people with the infection in the same house,” NAN quoted him to have said.

“Bura community is the worst affected; that is why we visited the Bauchi State Sgency for the control of HIV-AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (BACATMA) to seek their intervention.”

Saleh Hodi, another lawmaker, called for urgent measures to address the situation, adding that all 20 LGAs in the state have been affected.

“The ailment is spreading like wildfire across the 20 local government areas of the state,” Hodi said
