‘It’s the people’s victory’ — Buhari hails supreme court judgement on Imo

President Muhammadu Buhari has hailed the judgement of the supreme court declaring Hope Uzodinma, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 election, as the duly elected governor of Imo state.

On Tuesday, the supreme court sacked Emeka Ihedioha as governor of Imo, and asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue Uzodinma a certificate of return.

Reacting to the judgement, Buhari said the decision of the apex court is a victory for the people of Imo, and that the state will now be built with new energy.

“The road to justice may be long and tortuous, but it is the best path for anyone aggrieved,” he said.

“Under the new administration, a new journey to build a new Imo with new energy is about to begin. In this outcome, it is the people of Imo State who have emerged victorious.”

Atiku Abubakar, former vice president and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had said the judgement must be respected.

He asked Ihedioha not to be discouraged by the loss, saying he “will overcome this setback and emerge stronger”.
