I’ve not asked Buhari for anything, says Tinubu

Bola Tinubu has denied claims that his “demands” from President Muhammadu Buhari have soiled their relationship.

Speaking to journalists at the presidential villa on Tuesday after breaking fast with the president, Tinubu said he respects Buhari and remains loyal to him.

The former governor of Lagos state said: “I have made no demands. If you understand what party politics and leadership is all about, it is about loyalty and commitment to the values which the leadership believes in.

“I believe in what the president believes in, I respect him and I stand firmly loyal to his cause.  So you can go to any length of speculation that you might want, I have not responded to all of that because I understand the president and the president understands me clearly.”

He refused to comment on the crises in the national assembly.

“That is an area where I am very cautious of my position and my utterances. I still want to keep my side of the interpretation or analysis to be able to achieve a resolution of the matter as quickly as possible,” he said.

“I am backing what the president has carefully enumerated and articulated to the party. The party is supreme. The party must have disciplined leadership and followers. The party’s process must be respected because that is the confidence and the trust of the people.

“However in every environment, we should have conflict, that is politics and conflict resolution mechanism would be applied to resolve all the problems so we are there. There is honour in every struggle and every competition, there must be honour in victory too.”

He promised that APC would avoid the mistake of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP‎).

“We are different, we cannot be PDP, we are APC, we will not repeat their mistakes. We know their mistakes, errors, we understand what Nigeria wanted and Nigerians gave this party victory because of our manifesto,” he said.

“We are pro-people, we are progressives. We have had a conservative government in the last 16 years, this is a progressive party, just coming in barely 30 days. We understand the hope of Nigerians, we understand the expectations of Nigerians, we believe in that expectation and in our promise of prosperity to the people.  We will not change that.”

  3. My advise to our political leaders, especially Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu – Jagaban of Nigeria is to alt thee political machinations NOW and support PMB is his rescue mission for this great but failing nation. God has been gracious to us all by given us a person of PMB. Anybody that can not lower his or her personal ambition and agenda for PMB success interest for this nation may find him|herself at the balcony if not in cell. We have all suffered ENOUGH battery due to BAD governance, even the so call RICH! It’s high time to bury our hatchets and play along. The REALITY of where everyone belong would be playing out naturally as we move. God has seen that we have not learnt a good lession BUT He is INTERESTED in help us our of the wood once more, may be for this generation to have and possibly enjoy the TASTE of GOOD governance in our LIFETIME!

  5. The leadership intelligence of Bola Tinubu towers above that of many. He is one of the finest politicians that Nigeria has ever produced.
He remains unbeaten in his public comments to controversial issues.
Bola Tinubu keep up your political wisdom. It is priceless.
He is one of the greatest Nigerian leader that I desire to sit side by side with.

  6. This statement is truly coming from the heart of a progressive party leader.I hail your fatherly disposition to the party.I believe APC will not break up.The party will surely restore our glory as a nation.

  7. Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a dogged and astute politicians. He chooses his words and knows exactly what to say depending on the environment he is. He has hold on tenaciously to the APC structures and I do not think he will allow some set of less powerful and less tactical cabals to sweep the carpet off his feet in an arena that he is very familiar with. Ultimately the Jagaban will laugh last.
