‘I’ve taken it in good faith’ — APC’s Gawuna congratulates Yusuf, Kano governor-elect

Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, has congratulated Abba Kabir Yusuf, his opponent, and governor-elect of the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Yusuf, candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), as the winner of the election, having polled 1,019,602 votes to defeat Gawuna, who came close with 890,705 votes.

Though the APC had asked the electoral commission to review the election, the governor-elect received his certificate of return from INEC on Wednesday.

In a statement, Hassan Musa Fagge, chief press secretary to Gawuna, quoted his principal as praying to God to guide Yusuf when he takes over office.

Gawuna, the current deputy governor of Kano, said he has taken the outcome of the election in good faith.

“I am congratulating him and I pray for him for Allah’s guidance in his administration,” the APC candidate said.

“Initially, we have prayed to Allah to choose what is best for us because he is the Almighty who gives power to whom he wishes.

“Even though our party has written a petition to the INEC to review the election due to some irregularities, today it has issued the pronounced winner with a certificate of return. I have taken it in good faith.

“I am thanking President Muhammadu Buhari for coming out to seek the support of the Kano electorates to vote for me.”
