Iwobi plays no part as Giroud spares Arsenal blushes

Olivier Giroud came off the bench to help Arsenal secure a 1-1 draw against Southampton on Sunday.

Nigerian forward, Alex Iwobi, watched from the bench for the entirety of the match.

Charlie Austin’s third-minute goal was the difference after an up-tempo, end-to-end first half.

Southampton could have been three goals ahead in the early stages, with the Arsenal defence struggling to deal with Austin in particular.

Soon afterward, the Gunners grew into the game but an equaliser would not come until the dying minutes.

Alexis Sanchez drifted into space on the left and put a cross through to Olivier Giroud, who got between Yoshida and Van Dijk to flick a header into the bottom corner for Arsenal’s equaliser in the 87th minute.

The win lifted the North Londoners back above Tottenham in the English Premier League table.
