The family of the late Ben Nwabueze has announced Emeka Anyaoku, former commonwealth secretary-general; and Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide; as chairpersons of the deceased’s national burial committee.
Nwabueze, pioneer secretary-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Igbo socio-cultural group, died on October 28 at the age of 94 in Anambra state.
According to a statement signed by Eni Nwabueze, head of the family, Ben Ndi Obi, a senator, was named vice-chairperson, while Okey Emuchay, secretary of the Ohanaeze, and Olawale Okunniyi, secretary of the patriots, were appointed as co-secretaries.
Damien Obiefule will serve as the assistant secretary.

The statement said burial activities for the lawyer will take place from February 26 to March 9, 2024.
The committee members also include Kalu Idika Kalu, former finance minister; Tunji Abayomi; Emeka Ngige, senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN); Chijioke Okoli; Ikechukwu Amaechi; Arinze Oduah; Ben Egonu; and Ikenna Alumona.
Other members of the committee are Chukka Ifejika and Somto Udeze, speaker of the Anambra house of assembly.

Meanwhile, Nkechi Chukwurah, Nnenna Okwuosa and Jenkins Alumona, vice-president, Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN), will represent the family.
A senior advocate of Nigeria, Nwabueze was born in Athani, Anambra state in 1931.
