The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has advised Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, to caution Edison Ehie, his chief of staff.
In a statement on Thursday, Florence Jaja, national women leader of the IYC, said Ehie, the immediate past speaker of the Rivers assembly, “has divisive tendencies that may cause the governor to fall out of favour with his strongest supporters in the state”.
“With due respect, the chief of staff to the governor of Rivers state, Hon. Edison Ehie needs to be cautioned against premonition before things get out of hand,” the statement reads.
“His recent actions are termed divisive, unfashionable and seen as tribal mawkishness. These have evaporated beyond compromise and have necessitated this outburst.”

Jaja said “majority of our supporters are grudgingly supporting but rather complain in the background. So many groups who had earlier mobilised to support the government are seriously considering retreating”.
“This intervention is coming as a kind appeal to His Excellency to advise the chief of staff against actions that may amount to losing the overwhelming support of the people,” the statement reads.
“His actions may be unintentional, but the increasing pace of complaints from the majority has necessitated my action.”
