The federal government has charged the youths to channel their energies and resources toward building Nigeria as the world marks this year’s International Youth Day (IYD).
The IYD is celebrated annually on August 12 to bring youth matters to the attention of the international community and also celebrate their heroics as well as potentials in various areas.
This year’s IYD has the theme: ‘Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages’.
In a statement on Friday, Sunday Dare, minister of youth and sports development, charged the youths to shun all forms of vices that are inimical to the growth, stability, and socio-economic development of the nation.

The minister described the youth as the most active component in the demography of Nigeria and urged them to use such vantage position positively by being self-reliant and employable.
According to him, the government would not relent in its efforts to train and empower the youths.
This, he said, would enable them to compete favourably with their contemporaries on the global stage.

“Let us also take advantage of the opportunities provided for us by government to get training and empowerment that will prepare us to compete favourably on the global stage and lead us to creating the Nigeria of our dreams,” he added.
