JAMB postpones CBT after power outage

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has postponed the Computer-Based Test (CBT) originally scheduled for May 26, 2014, to May 31, 2014.

According to JAMB’s Deputy Director, Outstation, Mr Noble Onukwue, a power outage at one of the examination centres in Lagos — the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) — was responsible for the postponement

He explained that the outage delayed the conclusion of the second session of the examination, which in turn made it impossible to start the third session.

“It was not safe to keep children late for the examination due to the security situation in the country,” Onukwue told NAN.

“Some of these children are from very far distances and keeping them will amount to rushing the examination so as to get home on time. So the best decision was to reschedule, which is one of the flexibilities of the CBT.”

Onukwue said the board had attempted to prepare for situations such as this, by ensuring that examination centres to be selected were capable of self-generation of electricity.

The interruption of electricity supply meant that the second session of the CBT that started by 11.00 a.m. at DBI could not end by 2pm as scheduled, instead lasting till 6pm.

DBI’s Facility Manager, Mr Afam Aboh said the institute’s 250 KVA generating set crashed abruptly, but another one had since been provided.

Some of the candidates who were to write the postponed test commended the postponement, but some others who have written the test but haven’t received their results have been complaining, prompting TheCable to open a ‘help centre’ to liaise with hJAMB to help candidates track their results.
