JAMB bans candidates for double registration

Tertiary admission seekers who sat for the Paper and Pencil Test (PPT) as well as the Computer-Based Test (CBT) in the recently-concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) have been banned from participating in the examination for the next three years.

The CBT has been dogged by complaints of unavailability of results, and public relations officer of JAMB, Mr. Benjamin Fabian, believes some candidates have not seen their results because they may have registered for both tests, which would have automatically invalidated their results.

He noted that the board had hitherto warned the candidates against multiple registrations, which some of them failed to heed.

“The new policy is that any candidate who engages in multiple registrations will be banned for three years,” Benjamin said.

“We warned them before registration for the examination began, it was announced over and over again that they should register for either the PPT or CBT, but some of them did not listen.

“They still went ahead and registered for both. Now, they have been banned and they will not participate in the examination for the next three years. That is their punishment.”

He confirmed that the CBT, which was partially introduced last year, will come into full implementation in 2015, replacing the written test,  as it has helped “in no small measure” to reduce exam malpractice, while also bolstering the compliance of youths with Information Communication Technology (ICT).

Registrar of the Board, Professor Dibu Ojerinde, recently commissioned a model Computer-Based Test Centre built by the board in Kogo Bwari.

Over 156 CBT centres have been built nationwide, 10 of them by the board.
