The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has suspended admissions into the law faculty of Fountain University in Osogbo.

The suspension, which came after the board similarly halted admission into eight other law programmes, is for the 2025/26 academic session.

Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s national spokesperson, said the decision followed communication from the Council of Legal Education (CLE).

It makes Fountain University the ninth institution where JAMB will not process law admissions for the forthcoming academic year.

The suspension, TheCable understands, is part of CLE regulatory measures to ensure compliance with legal education standards.

As of this report, the criteria over which CLE suspended admissions to law programmes in the affected institutions is still unclear.

The CLE oversees and supervises the education of individuals aspiring for legal practice in Nigeria.

In 2023, it handed out a five-year ban on law admissions at Baze University for “serially” violating its approved intake quotas.

The regulatory body said the violation had caused a backlog of 347 law graduates awaiting admission to the Nigerian Law School (NLS).
