Manchester United won their second game of the season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Aston Villa thanks to Adnan Januzaj’s goal.
In the first top-flight match to take place on a Friday night in over a decade, both sides struggled to impose themselves and the positive result for United perhaps outweighed the performance.
Januzaj, restored to the starting lineup for the first time since February, got the game’s only goal in the 29th minute, picking up a Juan Mata through-ball before curling a deflected strike past Brad Guzan.

Villa looked much the brighter side in the second half, with Jordan Ayew blazing the home team’s best effort over the bar on 50 minutes.
After the Red Devils had weathered that early siege the game petered out and the visitors were able to hold on for the three points.
