The tenure of Attahiru Jega as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would be over on June 30.
Six national commissioners of the electoral body would also be leaving with Jega having served their mandatory five-year term.
The commission confirmed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
The national commissioners are M.K. Hammanga, Adamawa state, (northeast); Ishmael Igbani, Rivers state, (south south); Lai Olurode, Osun state, (south west); Gladys Nwafor, Abia state, (south east); Thelma Iremiren, Delta state, (south south); and Nuru Yakubu, Yobe state, (north east).

The statement added that four other national commissioners would be leaving within two months.
“Four other national commissioners are to leave the commission in July and August this year,” the statement read.
“They are: Dr. Abdulkadir S. Oniyangi, OFR, Kwara state, (North Central), whose tenure will expire on 21st July 2015; Mrs Amina Bala Zakari, Jigawa state, (North West); whose tenure will also expire on 21st July 2015; Dr Chris O. Iyimoga, Nasarawa state, (North Central); whose tenure will expire on 11th August 2015; and Amb. (Dr.) Mohammed Ahmad Wali, Sokoto state, (North West) whose tenure will also expire on 11th August 2015.”

Meanwhile, 16 resident electoral commissioners (RECs) left the commission at the expiration of their tenures last week.
They are: Ahmad Makama, Bauchi state; Haliru Tambuwal, Sokoto state; Abdullahi Danyaya, Niger state; Abubakar U.G. Wara, Kebbi state; Mike Igini, Delta state; Selina Oko, Ebonyi state; Hussaini Ahmed Mahuta, Katsina state; A.L. Ogunmola, Oyo state; Ibrahim Zarewa, Kano state; Tukur Sa’ad, Adamawa state; Emmanuel Onucheyo, Kogi state; Kassim Gana Gaidam, Yobe state; Timothy Ibitoye, Osun state; Rufus Akeju, Lagos state; C.E. Onukaogu, Abia state; and Ibrahim Bagobiri Marafa, Zamfara state.
