Jersey numbers revealed as Super Eagles prepare for AFCON

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the jersey numbers of the 25-man Super Eagles of Nigeria squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The confederation on Saturday also released the final squad list for the 24 qualified teams.

Francis Uzoho, the embattled goalkeeper, has been handed the number 1 jersey while Victor Osimhen takes over number 9 from Odion Ighalo who wore the jersey number at the last AFCON tournament in Cameroon.

Captain Ahmed Musa also retained his number 7 shirt while Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi, a replacement for injured Wilfred Ndidi, took over the defensive midfielder’s number 4 jersey.

Other members of the squad who retained their jerseys from last AFCON include Ola Aina, William Paul Ekong, Joe Aribo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, and Kenneth Omeruo who are to wear jerseys with numbers 2, 5, 10, 14, 15, and 22 respectively.

Victor Boniface, Bayer Leverkusen’s in-form striker, will wear jersey number 24.

The Super Eagles continue preparations for the tournament set to begin next week in the Ivory Coast as they put in the work in Abu Dhabi.

The tournament will begin on January 13 in Abidjan. The Eagles will play its first match the next day against Equatorial Guinea.
