Jimoh Ibrahim: Amotekun would be driven by technology if I’m elected governor

Jimoh Ibrahim, senator representing Ondo south, says he would ensure that Amotekun, the south-west security network, is driven by information technology if he is elected governor.

Ibrahim is one of the governorship hopefuls in the All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the November 16 gubernatorial election in Ondo.

Speaking with journalists in Akure on Tuesday, the senator said if elected, his administration will prioritise Amotekun in order to secure the state against kidnappers and armed robbers.

The businessman said his administration would delineate the state’s borders for improved security.

“We must also map Ondo state borders for security networks and then to ensure that we never have any cases of kidnapping, by making Amotekun a classic and unique security outfit,” he said.

“The tactical operations of Amotekun have to come more distinct into technology.

“I want an Amotekun that is IT informed because I have a PhD in war so we need to do more of IT.

“Our government will ensure that Amotekun is IT compliant through strategy and innovations and it’s going to be well funded to ensure that people of Ondo state can sleep with their two eyes closed.

“Amotekun will have the highest attention in terms of information technology.

“I am an expert in security, I may not be wearing a military uniform. When I become the governor, we must have a residence card, containing all your data.”

Speaking further, he said his administration will also prioritise infrastructure development and creation of employment opportunities for youths.

He added that he is the most experienced politician among those eyeing the governorship seat.

“I’m declaring my intention to run for the governorship election of Ondo state. Among the contestants, I am the oldest,” he added.

“I have contested elections twice in my lifetime, one of which I contested for the governorship position during Adefarati in 2003, and none of these contestants was on that ballot.”

Ibrahim would square up to Lucky Aiyedatiwa, governor of the state; and Wale Akinterinwa, a former commissioner of finance in Ondo; for the APC governorship ticket.
