Job vacancies at Cable Foundation

Cable Newspaper Journalism Foundation (CNJF), a partner of TheCable online newspaper, is a not-for-profit organisation using the vehicle of journalism to advance transparency and accountability in government. It seeks to build an active citizenry to promote democracy, good governance and development. Also known as the Cable Foundation, CNJF is a subscriber to “solutions journalism” – a school that believes in rigorous reporting of positive response to problems and challenges.

With support from the MacArthur Foundation, CNJF is undertaking the Policy Radar Initiative (PRIN) designed to take an active part in the campaign for open government with the instruments of investigative reporting, data journalism, policy advocacy and mentoring of young journalists. PRIN seeks to track and trace the implementation of key public policies and programmes, particularly in the power and education sectors.

The Foundation is recruiting highly qualified candidates to join the PRIN project team.

HEAD, INVESTIGATIONS

Location: Lagos or Abuja.

Tenure: Renewable three-year contract.

Duties: The ideal candidate will lead a team of vibrant investigative journalists and help the Cable Foundation deliver on its mandate.

Requirements: An experienced investigative journalist with strong analytical, creative and leadership skills. Experience in a mainstream newspaper is mandatory. Awards in investigative reporting will confer a significant advantage on applicants. Candidates must possess proficiency in modern, digital journalism.

PART-TIME REPORTER-RESEARCHERS

Locations: Kano, Ibadan, PH, Jos, Enugu and Yola.

Tenure: One-year contract, renewable for three years based on performance.

Duties: Reporter-Researchers will perform the following duties (1) investigative reporting (2) data gathering /analysis.

Requirements: Relevant experience in research, news writing and reporting, with strong analytical, creative and organisational skills. Candidates must possess proficiency in modern, digital journalism. Experience in a mainstream newspaper is an advantage. Candidates must be resident in these cities and must be very familiar with their terrain of interest.

GRADUATE INTERNS

Locations: Lagos and Abuja.

Duration: Six months

Duties: Interns will be involved in investigative reporting as well as data gathering/analysis.

Requirements: Candidates must have graduated not earlier than 2015. A first degree with a demonstrable flair for journalism and research, with strong analytical, creative, organisational and social media skills are important.
