John Nwosu withdraws from LP Anambra guber primary over alleged irregularities

John Nwosu

John Nwosu, a governorship hopeful in the Labour Party (LP) primary election in Anambra, has withdrawn from the race.

The gubernatorial primary election is scheduled for today in Awka, the capital of Anambra.

In a statement issued on Friday, Nwosu cited several “irregularities” for his decision.

“There was no delegates congress of the party held in any of the 21 local government areas of the state to elect the delegates to vote at the primary election and a list of delegates eventually emerged and pasted at the state headquarters of the party in Awka, just about eight hours to the D-Day, Saturday, April 5, 2025,” the statement reads.

He faulted the planning of the governorship primary, further attributing his withdrawal to the need to “preserve his integrity and remain true to his values”.

With Nwosu’s withdrawal from the LP governorship primary election, George Moghalu, former managing director of the National Inland Waterways, is now the sole contender in the race.
