John Obakpolor, former chairman of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), has died.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced the death of Obakpolor on its verified Twitter handle on Monday night.

“We @thenff regret to announce the passing of our one-time chairman of then Nigeria Football Association, Group Captain John Obakpolor (Rtd). May his soul Rest In Peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time,” NFF tweeted.
He was chairman of the then-NFA between 1984 to 1987.

Obakpolor was a former group captain in the Nigeria Air Force.
He was chairman of the technical and administrative panel that investigated the 2012 Dana airline crash that killed all 153 people on board.
As NFA chairman, Obakpolor is credited for giving the late Samuel Okwaraji the opportunity to play for the Nigerian national team.
