Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, has called for a unified military approach to tackle terrorism and banditry in the north-west.
Sani made the call on Thursday while receiving Mohammed Abubakar, defence minister.
The governor also harped on the need for northern states to collaborate in addressing insecurity.
He commended the federal government’s creation of the joint military command and operation Fansan Yamma.

“It is a clear demonstration of commitment to tackling insecurity,” he said.
Sani said the root causes of insecurity should be addressed through investment in sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and citizen engagement.
He proposed a people-driven “Marshall Plan” for regional development and called for transparent leadership of the North West Development Commission.

The governor also urged the defence minister to consider placing Operation Safe Haven under 1 Division, Kaduna, to enhance security coordination in the area.
In response, Abubakar said his visit was aimed at finalising plans for the launch of Operation Fansan Yamma, which seeks to address the region’s security challenges.
He praised the state’s support for security agencies and its efforts in constructing roads to improve access to remote areas.
The minister assured of federal support and expressed gratitude to troops for their service during his visit to 1 Division Nigerian Army, Air Training Command, and frontline local governments.
