Jonathan to show Buhari round Aso Rock ‘soon’

For the third time in a month, President-elect Muhammadu Buhari and President Goodluck Jonathan have had a private meeting at the presidential villa, Abuja.

Speaking after the meeting, Jonathan did not reveal details of the conversation, but said he would soon show the in-coming president round the villa.

“We are discussing for the interest of the country,” the president simply said.

“You can see that we are smiling, it was a fruitful one.”

Jonathan also gave further hint that Buhari would soon be back at the villa when he said: “We will take a date when the president will come and I will show him round the state house but today is not for that.

“Today is to continue with our conversation. So we don’t need to worry the president; we don’t need to worry the president.”

Like Jonathan, Buhari was taciturn on details of the meeting. Asked to comment, he simply said: “The president said it all.”

On March 26, Jonathan and Buhari, who was only the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the time, met behind closed doors at the Sheraton hotels, Abuja.

The outcome was the renewal of their commitment to peaceful elections. Both men also pledged to accept the outcome of a free, fair and credible election.

On April 3, both men met privately again, this time at the president’s office. Details of the meeting were not made public, but it was believed to be about plans for a transition, which Jonathan mentioned when he called Buhari to congratulate him on his success at the election.
