Jonathan demands arrest of thugs who destroyed INEC materials in Bayelsa

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called for the arrest of thugs who destroyed election materials in Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa state.

The former president gave his assessment of the voting process after casting his ballot at his polling unit on Saturday.

Reports had earlier surfaced that thugs hijacked and burnt election materials for Otuokpoti Ward 2 of Ogbia LGA.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were said to have left the ward in the wake of the incident.

Jonathan said it would be a terrible disappointment if state security operatives fail to arrest the culprits.

“Judging from my voting unit here, materials arrived earlier than three weeks ago. In terms of the general security of the election, it’s peaceful here,” he said in an interview with Arise TV.

“But I’m disturbed because I’ve learned that in the state constituency 2, there was a crisis and materials have been burned.

“The police must make sure they arrest all those involved. If they feel challenged, they should go to the governor to get the military involved. All those involved must be arrested and prosecuted.

“We are all watching. If the police fail to do that, we will be terribly disappointed.”
