President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday congratulated the Flying Eagles of Nigeria on their victory at the CAF 2015 African Youth Championship in Senegal and promised to host them on their return to the country.
The Manu Garba-tutored side defeated the host Senegal 1-0 to win their 7th AYC at the Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium on Sunday.
And in show of appreciation, the President, through a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Reuben Abati, “looks forward to receiving the team at his earliest convenience on their return to the country with the aim of honouring them for bringing more sporting glory to their fatherland”.
“President Jonathan joins other soccer-loving Nigerians in applauding the Flying Eagles’ glorious triumph over their Senegalese opponents who, as tournament hosts, played in the finals with the vociferous backing of a partisan home crowd,” the statement read.
