Jonathan: Kaduna bombers trying ‘to inflame passions’

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan says Wednesday’s blasts in Kaduna ─ which targeted former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari, and prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi ─ were “an odious attempt” to inflame passions.

He also said they were meant to “exacerbate disquiet, fear, insecurity and sectional divisions in the country”.

In a statement by his spokesman, Dr. Rueben Abati, the president thanked “God Almighty for sparing the lives of General Buhari and Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi”.

Jonathan also extended “sincere condolences” to the families of those who were sadly killed by the bomb blasts.

He directed the police and other national security agencies to take all necessary actions to apprehend the perpetrators of the attacks, Abati said.
