Jonathan visits Buhari’s hometown ahead of poll

President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday visited Daura, the hometown of Muhammadu Buhari, his rival in next week’s presidential election, and promised that the polls would not be shifted again.

He also vowed to “deal with” those calling for an interim national government (ING) because it is “treasonable”.

He was speaking at the palace of Umar Farouk Umar, the emir of Daura.

Jonathan said if government begins to arrest those behind rumours of interim government, he would be accused of haunting people even when their action is “treasonable”.

He said: “Let me use this opportunity to make a statement again because sometimes I read in the papers of people talking about interim government. Even yesterday some people were making pronouncement that some people are planning interim government.

“And I will say that anybody who is planning or who is linked to anything that has to do with interim government must be dealt with according to the law. It is treasonable and government will not allow it.

“So, if people are arrested and being prosecuted, people should not say government is haunting people. There is no reason why people should talk about interim government that is not known to our constitution. It is treasonable and I will advise Nigerians to keep away from it.”

He also said Nigerians should prepare to go and vote for those we believe that can run the affairs of the country at the state level and the federal level on March 28 and April 11.

The emir thanked Jonathan for the visit and asked him to always count on his support and counsel urged him to ensure there was peace throughout the country during the elections.

The emir and his chiefs later offered prayers for the president.

  1. I saw several thousands of people lining up on both sides of the road from Kazaure to Daura, Buhari’s hometown to receive the President yet APC still want us to beleive that the man is not popular in the North.
With what I saw, its really true that the North have woken up to realize the plan of Tinubu and obasanjo to shortchange us again by choosing an old and sick candidate for the south west to take back power through the back door.
We in the north should not waste our vote for this Buhari man who is clearly a candidate of Tinubu, Obasanjo and the Yorubas.
    God pass dem.

  2. Your comment..aha….. Now you are seeing the light behind Obasanjo’s shift overnight and the dirty game Tinubu is planning against the North. As far as I’m concern, Tinibu wants to be president and therefore he is looking for every devilish ways to ascending the throne. I won’t be suprise to see Osinbajo resigning after some months -that is if they win!
