Jonathan’s re-election campaign to kick off in Lagos

President Goodluck Jonathan will commence his campaign for re-election in Lagos on Thursday.

The event has been scheduled for the Tafawa Balewa Square, where the last major event of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos held.

Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who is Jonathan’s main opponent in the February 14 election, flagged off his own campaign at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers state, on Tuesday.

The choice of Rivers and Lagos by both parties could be based on the huge voting population of the respective states.

While in Lagos, the president is expected to inspect some ongoing projects such as remodeling of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport wing, the reconstruction of the Apapa/Oshodi expressway and the reconstruction of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

On Monday, Jerry Gana, the chairman of a committee that organised a special fundraising dinner where N21 billion was realised said N10bn out of the money would be invested in the party’s 12-storey secretariat while another part of it would go into other projects.
