Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) has asked customers in Gombe not to pay anyone or its staff for the repair of faulty transformers in their communities.

In an interview with NAN on Monday, Musa Abdullahi, the chief security officer of JEDC, said it is not the responsibility of customers to repair faulty transformers.

Abdullahi urged residents to report transformer issues to JEDC offices and not pay officials for repairs, saying that requests for community contributions are wrong, fraudulent, and unacceptable.

“We don’t collect money from communities to fix transformers so no one is expected to pay,” he said.

“For any staff to go to communities collecting N5000, N3000 or any amount per households or street is fraudulent and we frown at such.

“If you have a challenge and cannot wait for your transformers to be fixed, you write to the Managing Director through the Regional Manager that you want to support the company willingly.

“Whoever asks you for money, escalate the issue to the regional manager and we will make example of them”.

Abdullahi urged the communities to report illegal demands from staff and to support the company’s efforts to protect power installations in the state.

The DisCo also implored residents to refrain from assaulting JEDC officials while on duty.

The electricity distribution firm had on February 12, asked customers within its network coverage in Bauchi, Gombe, Benue, and Plateau to “not make any form of payment for the installation as it was absolutely free of charges”.
