Journalists attacked as residents protest abduction of Jangebe schoolgirls

Some aggrieved residents of Talata-Mafara local government area of Zamfara have taken to the streets to protest the abduction of students of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe.

The Zamfara state police command on Friday confirmed that 317 students were kidnapped by suspected gunmen who attacked the school earlier in the day.

Reacting to the incident, the residents, who stormed the streets in their hundreds, destroyed some properties.

According to NAN, they destroyed two vehicles conveying journalists from various media houses, injuring the cameraman for Thunder Blowers in the process.

Abutu Yaro, the state commissioner of police, and Abubakar Dauran, the state commissioner for security and home affairs, were said to be seen pacifying the protesters.

The Jangebe abduction comes a week after 27 schoolchildren from Government Science College, Kagara in Niger state, were kidnapped by bandits.
