At least two bombs have exploded at the ‘GSM Market’ in Nasarawa GRA, Kano state, TheCable has been told.
Initially, Musa Majiya, the Kano state police spokesman, could not ascertain the casualty toll, only telling TheCable: “I am on my way to scene of the incident.”
The blast came a day after 32 people were killed and 80 injured in a blast in Yola, capital of Adamawa state.
But after confirming the incident, Majiya said the attacks were carried out by two female suicide bombers, aged 11 and 18, conveyed to the GSM market in a Volkswagen bus.
He disclosed that 15 people were killed, apart from the suicide bombers, in the attacks while 53 persons sustained wounds.
“Today about quarter to four in the evening, a Volkswagen bus came to the GSM market and dropped two girls. One is 11 and the other is about 18,” he said.
“The girls were all in hijab. One entered the GSM market while the other was outside. They blew themselves up simultaneously.
“Apart from the suicide bombers, 15 people were killed while 53 sustained wounds and are receiving treatment at hospital. The entry-exit points in Kano state have been blocked and we are trying to track the bus. Investigation has commenced.”
