Muiz Banire, the APC national legal adviser, is one of the 21 new senior advocates of Nigeria (SANs) named by the supreme court on Friday.
Banire (pictured) served as commissioner of transport and later environment in Lagos state from 1999 to 2011.
Also on the list are Emeka Etiaba, son of former governor of Anambra state, Virgy Etiaba, and Chinwe Aguma, the attorney-general of Rivers state.
In all, there are three academics and 18 practitioners named in the elite echelon of the bar.

Also named are Niyi Adegbonmire, Kehinde Eleja, Dapo Olanipekun, Muyiwa Akinboro (a former general-secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association), Edward Ashiekaa and Ibrahim Bawa.
Others are Ade Adedeji, Gordy Uche, Bimbo Akeredolu (former attorney-general of Ogun state), Akin Onigbinde, Patrick Okolo, Joseph Bamigboye, Benson Nwankwo and Valentine Obi.
From the academia are Paul Idornigie, Tahir Mamman and Maxwell Gidado.
