‘Change fever’ catches Aso Rock staff

On a good day, the car park at the presidential villa, Abuja, would not fill up until 10am. The staff at the nation’s seat of power used to take their time before coming to office.

But that may no longer be the case.

On Monday, with the staff expecting President Muhammadu Buhari to come to office very early, it was a different scenario altogether.

By 8:30am, the car park was filled up — most of the staff were already at their duty posts.

However, Buhari and his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo, had not got to the villa at the time of this report. They were preoccupied with some state function at the defence house, where both used as temporary offices after winning the election.

Buhari was known for his strictness with punctuality when he was military head of state as this was one of the highpoints of the war against indiscipline (WAI).

The wind of change is already blowing across the villa — but for how long?
