At least ten persons have been reportedly killed in a fresh attack by suspected herdsmen in Benue state.
TheCable learned that the attackers invaded some communities in Saghev, Guma local government area of the state, on Friday night.
They were said to have burnt down houses and shops in the community, sacking the residents.
Moses Yamu, spokesman of Benue police command, could not immediately confirm the attack.

When contacted by TheCable, he said: “I did not even hear of the attack, someone just informed me a few minutes ago. That is why I said I will get in touch with the officer in charge there and get back to you later.”
Terver Akase, chief press secretary to the state governor, confirmed that the attackers raided the communities through the night.
Confirming the attack via a statement, he listed the affected communities to include Tse-Abi, Tse-Ginde, Tse-Peviv, Tse-Ikyo, Agenke and Gbenke.

“Ten corpses have so far been recovered with many others injured. The armed herdsmen also burnt numerous houses, shops and other property in the area,” he said.
“This mindless attack was unprovoked, and we urge security agencies to arrest the herdsmen behind the killings for prosecution.”
