Some parts of Nigeria were without electricity on Wednesday after the national grid experienced a disturbance.

Data obtained from the independent system operator (ISO) showed that the megawatt generated dropped from 4,064.70 (MW) to 1,222.78 (MW).

According to statements released by Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) and Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC), the national grid experienced a system outage around 11:34am.

AEDC said the system disturbance resulted in a power outage across its coverage areas.

The AEDC covers the FCT, Kogi, Niger and Nassarawa states.

“We regret to inform you that a system disturbance occurred on the national grid at 11:34 am today causing power outage across our franchise areas,” AEDC said.

“While gradual restoration of power supply has commenced, please be assured that we are working closely with relevant stakeholders to fully restore electricity as soon as the grid is stabilised.

Similarly, IKEDC announced that a system outage occurred at the same hour, affecting all its feeders.

“Please be informed that we experienced a system outage today 12th February, 2025 at 11:34hrs affecting all our feeders,” the notice reads.

The company said restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with its critical stakeholders.

IKEDC covers part of Ogun and Lagos states.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in November 2024, said instability in the national grid will likely persist as the system undergoes repairs.
