Lai: Buhari will dissolve his cabinet when he wants

Lai Mohammed, minister of information, says President Muhammadu Buhari will dissolve his cabinet any time he chooses.

The minister made the remark while clarifying an earlier statement on dissolution of cabinet.

Briefing state house correspondents earlier on Thursday, Mohammed had said the president would hold a valedictory session with members of the federal executive council (FEC) on May 22 after which the cabinet will be dissolved.

“We will be having a valedictory session on 22nd May. The cabinet remains intact,” he said.

He later clarified his statement to state house correspondents, saying it is the prerogative of the president to dissolve his cabinet anytime he chooses.

”It is inaccurate to extrapolate from my statement – that the FEC valedictory session will hold on 22 May – to say that the president will dissolve the cabinet on the same day,” he said in a brief statement.

Buhari will be sworn in for a second term on May 29.

Mohammed said cabinet members are already preparing their handover notes to be submitted to permanent secretaries in their respective ministries.

On April 17, Buhari directed ministers to immediately submit a comprehensive status report of their policies and projects on or before April 24.

Buhari is currently making plans to leave the country for a 10-day private visit to the United Kingdom.
