Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), says the Department of State Services (DSS) prevented his client from seeking assistance from the UK.

Kanu is a dual citizen of Nigeria and the UK.

Ejimakor disclosed this in a statement on Monday after paying a visit to Kanu at the headquarters of the secret police.

The lawyer said the IPOB leader was prevented from signing a letter seeking help from the UK consulate.

Kanu was rearrested in June. TheCable had reported how Kanu was lured and then arrested.

The IPOB leader, who is facing charges bordering on treasonable felony following his campaign for the secession of Republic of Biafra, had jumped bail in 2017 after a military action, code-named “Operation Python Dance”, targeted his family house in Abia state.

On Sunday, Ejimakor said Kanu spoke on the importance of unity and tolerance when he visited.

“UPDATE: Today, I met with Onyendu at the DSS. We spent nearly 4 hours. My interaction with him was fulfilling,” the counsel had said.

“He’s cheery and looks forward to overcoming this predicament sooner than later. Again, he stressed UNITY and tolerance on all sides. He has you all in his thoughts.”
