Explosions, gun battle rattle Maiduguri

Friday night witnessed yet another around of explosions and gun battles in Maiduguri, Borno State.

State officials are yet to brief the media on the incident, but residents say the gun men, suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents, invaded the city from a suburb.

Several explosions occurred in the areas close to the University of Maiduguri and University Teaching Hospital.

The incident happened close to midnight.

There are yet to reports of casualties but the insurgents were said to have been repelled by Nigerian soldiers.

Maiduguri has enjoyed some respite in recent times as terror attacks shifted to other cities and villages.
