Fire breaks out in five-storey building at Lagos market

A fire outbreak has been reported in a five-storey building in Balogun market, Lagos state.

According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire, which broke out on Tuesday morning, affected the “topmost floor” of the building.

The fire service said mitigation efforts are underway to limit the spread.

TheCable understands that the fire affected the section of the building where traders sell shoes.

Prior to the governorship election, a fire destroyed some shops at the Akere auto parts market in the Olodi Apapa area of the state.

In January, a five-storey building at Gbajumo street, also in Balogun market, was razed by fire.

According to a report published by TheCable in 2021, Oyo and Lagos states reported the most market fires in the year under review.
