The patient was identified as a 75-year-old retiree and former ambassador, who had not travelled outside the country for weeks.
However, he was said to have travelled to Lagos, Abuja, and Kaduna respectively in the past two weeks and returned from Kaduna on the 25th of March, 2020. He had several engagements with family, friends and close associates, and also attended a wedding fatiha and Juma’at prayer.
He developed symptoms of fever, cough and body pains five days after his return from Kaduna, and went for treatment at a private hospital and a private diagnostic centre. He then called the Kano state COVID-19 call centre to report his symptoms.
A rapid response team (RRT) was deployed to his residence where he was screened and his sample was taken, after which it was confirmed that he had tested positive to the virus.
