Lagos panel continues review of Lekki shooting footage

The Lagos judicial panel investigating alleged human rights abuses by members of the disbanded special anti-robbery squad (SARS) has continued a review of the Lekki shooting footage. 

The shooting incident which occurred on October 20 elicited widespread criticism.

The panel continued a review of the video footage at its sitting in Lekki area of Lagos, on Saturday.

The panel obtained the footage of the incident from the Lekki Concession Company (LCC) at its sitting two weeks ago.

The closed-circuit TV footage was first played at the panel sitting on November 6.

Prior to the Lekki shooting, Nigerians converged on the Lekki tollgate to protest against police brutality under the #EndSARS campaign.

On October 20, soldiers shot at the protesters, leaving many wounded.

When he appeared before the panel, Abayomi Omomuwansa, managing director of LCC, said the cameras stopped working from 8pm on the night of the shooting at the Lekki tollgate.

The army insists that its men did not kill any protester on the night of the shooting, claiming they only fired blank bullets into the air to disperse the crowd.
