Onyekuru joins Ikpeba’s former club, AS Monaco, in €20m deal

Super Eagles forward, Henry Onyekuru, has completed a five-year contract deal to Victor Ikpeba’s former French Ligue 1 side, AS Monaco.

He completed a €20 million fee from Everton FC to the Leonardo Jardim’s coach side, the club website announced.

Onyekuru move to Monaco became imminent as the club lost its opening game of the new Ligue Un season 3-0 at home to Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday.

The 22-year-old became a toast of many European club sides after loan spell with Turkish giants Galatasaray in last season after netting 18 times in all competitions to help them to a domestic double.

He was wanted on another loan spell by the Turkish Champions but Everton opted to sell him after several failed efforts to get a work permit in England.

Oleg Petrov, Vice President and General Manager of AS Monaco, said: “We are very happy to have Henry Onyekuru with us. He has demonstrated his qualities in recent seasons. He is a fast and powerful offensive player who will strengthen our offensive sector. We welcome him.”

In his response, Onyekuru said: “I’m very happy to join a great club like AS Monaco. I will give everything to improve and help the Club to have a great season. I look forward to meeting my teammates.”

Onyekuru, who was part of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Eagles bronze-winning squad has made 11 appearances for the Super Eagles and scoring a goal.
