A delegation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) board of trustees (BoT) is currently in a closed-door meeting with Nyesom Wike, Rivers state governor.

TheCable understands that the meeting is taking place at the government house in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital.

Adolphus Wabara, PDP BoT acting chairman, is said to have led the delegation to the state.

The meeting is part of the efforts to resolve the crisis in the major opposition party.

Last Wednesday, TheCable reported how Wike, as well as Samuel Ortom and Seyi Makinde — governors Benue and Oyo — were absent from the PDP’s presidential campaign council inauguration.

Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Okezie Ikpeazu, governors of Enugu and Abia, also failed to show up.

The dispute in the PDP began after the national convention of the party.

Wike was defeated by Atiku Abubakar in the race to emerge as the party’s presidential candidate.

Subsequently, calls emanated from Wike’s camp for Iyorchia Ayu to step down as national chairman of the party.

The clamour by Wike and his allies is said to be on the grounds that the PDP presidential candidate and national chairman cannot be from the same region.

Ayu has since refused to resign while Atiku has said no one can compel the national chairman to vacate his position.
