The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may cancel its national convention in Port Harcourt, TheCable has learnt.
An official of the party confided to TheCable that Ali Modu Sheriff, national chairman of the party, had resolved to cancel the convention and to set up a caretaker committee that would oversee the affairs of the party.
“Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, and Sheriff are at loggerheads now over the chairman’s decision to cancel the convention,” the source said.
“Wike told the chairman that he was trying to destroy the party by his decision, but Sheriff is bent on having his way.”

TheCable understands that the decision of the national chairman to cancel the convention is linked to an order of a federal high court in Lagos stopping election in some of the principal offices of the party.
Following the order of the court, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced that it would not monitor election to the offices of the national chairman, national secretary, and national auditor.
