The Kano police command says it has banned all durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr festivities due to “security concerns” and the need for public order.
Ibrahim Bakori, Kano police commissioner, spoke at a press briefing on Friday.
He said decision was based on intelligence reports which indicated potential threats linked to the event.
“Following credible intelligence reports of orchestrated plans by miscreants and their sponsors to exploit the Durbar for disruptive activities, the Command, in consultation with the Kano State Government and other key stakeholders, has decided to prohibit all Durbar activities across the state,” Bakori said.

“As we celebrate, let us remember that peace is paramount. We must put aside our differences and work together as law-abiding citizens for the progress of our state and nation.”
He assured residents of adequate security for Eid prayers at designated grounds, urging worshippers to follow guidelines, avoid suspicious items, and refrain from horse riding, car racing, or reckless driving.
The police commissioner asked parents and guardians to caution their children against being “influenced by subversive elements” and to ensure adherence to public order to prevent disturbances.

On Thursday, Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, cancelled the Eid-el-Fitr durbar celebration in the city over security concerns.
The deposed emir said respected religious leaders and stakeholders advised him to cancel the durbar in the state.
Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, had asked all four emirates in the state to commence preparations for the sallah durbar.
A durbar is a festival held during Eid-el-Kabir and Eid-el-Fitri celebrations. It begins with prayers, followed by a parade of the emir and his entourage on horses.
