Other aspirants not cleared, says panel as Sanwo-Olu secures Lagos APC guber ticket

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, has secured the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 general election.

He was declared as winner of the primary which held on Thursday at the Mobolaji Johnson arena, formerly known as Onikan stadium, on Lagos Island.

According to Ahmed Yuguda, chairman of the Lagos APC primary electoral committee, Sanwo-Olu secured 1,170 votes out of a total of 1,198 accredited votes.

Meanwhile, earlier on Thursday, Yuguda said only Sanwo-Olu was cleared to participate in the primary.

The exercise was conducted under heavy security presence and was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to NAN, while reacting to allegations that the two other aspirants were prevented from attending the primary, Yuguba said only Sanwo-Olu has been given the go-ahead to participate in the exercise as an aspirant.

“We are aware that three aspirants bought forms for Lagos state. Three were accredited for the screening; one was cleared; two were not cleared,” he said.

“So, as we speak, the other two aspirants have not been cleared by the screening committee and by the appeal committee.

“We are only attending to those that have been cleared.”

The other two aspirants said to have not been cleared are Wale Oluwo, a former commissioner, and Abdul-Ahmed Mustapha, a former permanent secretary.

Speaking on the exercise, Yuguda commended the orderliness and peaceful conduct of delegates and other members of the party in the state.
