The supreme court has announced that its verdict on the appeals challenging the election of President Bola Tinubu will be broadcast live today, October 26.

Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), are seeking to overturn the judgment of the presidential petition tribunal which affirmed Tinubu’s election as president.

Obi is contending that Tinubu failed to secure 25 percent of votes cast in the federal capital territory (FCT) and that Tinubu’s forfeiture of $460,000 in the US in the ’90s, disqualifies him from contesting for president, among other prayers.

In his 35 grounds notice of appeal, Abubakar submitted that the tribunal’s findings were replete with “grave errors and gross misrepresentation” which resulted in a miscarriage of justice.

Abubakar also produced fresh evidence which he obtained from the Chicago State University (CSU) against Tinubu.

This judgment was prepared by Inyang Okoro who is leading a 7-member panel of the supreme court.

At the time of filing this report, Okoro has commenced reading of the judgment.
