Three new senators take oath of office

Three newly elected senators have taken their oaths of office.

The oath of office and that of the national assembly were administered on the senators on Tuesday after Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed the clerk of the upper legislative chamber to do so.

The senators are Anthony Ani, senator representing Ebonyi south; Musa Mustapha, senator representing Yobe east; and Pam Dachungyang, senator representing Plateau north.

The senators were declared winners of the various rerun and by-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) more than a week ago.

Ani, Mustapha, and Dachungyang are replacing David Umahi, minister of works; Ibrahim Gaidam, minister of police affairs; and Simon Mwadkon, a former senator representing Plateau north who was sacked by the courts.

After they were sworn in, Akpabio welcomed the new senators to the red chamber.

“On behalf of the senate, we want to congratulate them and welcome them to the 10th senate,” the senate president said.
