The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) says its operatives have rescued the wife of Hakeem Odumosu, a retired assistant inspector-general of police (AIG).

On January 16, the victim was whisked away by four masked men while entering her home in Arepo, Obafemi Owode LGA of Ogun state.

The abductors reportedly took the former AIG’s wife through a swampy area to an unknown destination after dragging her out of her sport utility vehicle (SUV).

In the wake of the abduction, the police command in Ogun said it had deployed officers to investigate the incident.

On Thursday, Muyiwa Adejobi, force spokesperson, announced that operatives “neutralised the kidnappers” and recovered ransom.

Adejobi said Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police, commended the operatives for the rescue operation.

He added that the personnel were able to locate the abductors’ hideout, in a creek marooned in the swampy area of Ikorodu, through intelligence gathering.

The force spokesperson said when operatives arrived at the location, the abductors opened fire and a gun duel ensued, which led to the death of two gunmen as four others fled.

Adejobi said the victim was rescued unharmed.

He detailed that operatives recovered four AK-47 rifles, three locally-made single barrel rifles, ammunition of various calibre, and N10,000,000 which had been prised from the victim’s family as ransom.
