Just like PDP, PDM sacks national chairman

The Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) has sacked Bashir Yusuf, its national chairman, for gross misconduct – reminiscent of how the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) sacked Ali Modu Sheriff, its former national chairman.

The party, which was registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in August, 2013, also dissolved its national executive council.

It took the decision at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

The party subsequently set up a caretaker committee headed by Munir Garba to run its affairs for three months after which new principal officers would be elected at a national convention.

“NEC has further directed the national caretaker committee to petition the office of the inspector-general of police to commence investigation into the conduct of the dissolved national chairman of the party in the person of Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim,” a communique issued at the end of the meeting read.

“NEC has immediately dissolved all the national principal officers of the party currently occupying office for their compromise on the oath they subscribe to promote the party.”
