Over one million people have signed a petition to prevent US President, Donald Trump, from making a state visit to the United Kingdom.

The petitioners are urging Britain to withdraw the invitation for Trump to visit London and meet with Queen Elizabeth.

“Donald Trump should be allowed to enter the UK in his capacity as head of the US Government, but he should not be invited to make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen.

“Donald Trump’s well documented misogyny and vulgarity disqualifies him from being received by Her Majesty the Queen or the Prince of Wales. Therefore during the term of his presidency Donald Trump should not be invited to the United Kingdom for an official State Visit,” the petition reads.

The petition had started before Theresa May, British prime minister, invited Trump on a state visit.

But following Trump’s decision to ban seven Muslim countries and refugees from entering the US, the number of signatories to the petition skyrocketed.

In the UK, once a petition passes 100,000 signatures, the parliament must consider it for debate.

The British government is also expected to respond “all petitions that get more than 10,000 signatures.”
